Mike Meister
Mike Meister was a2014 candidate forDistrict 48 of theNebraska State Senate.
Biography
Meister earned his bachelor's degree from Creighton University and his J.D. from the Creighton University College of Law in 1986. His professional experience includes working as an attorney with a limited practice for the representation of injured workers and individuals. Meister served in the United States Army from 1986 to 1992. He was stationed at Grafenwoehr Training Area as a Trial Counsel, Claims Officer and Legal Assistance Officer in Grafenwoehr, Germany.[1]

Economic Development
- Excerpt: "The continued viability of the panhandle in general and Scotts Bluff County in particular, is grounded in our ability to grow. To that end, we must fund infrastructure projects such as the Heartland Expressway; revisit the use of our public utilities to provide broadband internet access to the rural areas of our state; and find innovative ways to let us compete at the state level for businesses with communities the size of the twin cities."
School Aid
- Excerpt: "The school aid formula in this state is woefully broken. Urban centers are receiving the bulk of aid while rural schools are pushed to the back of the line. This results in a heavier reliance on property taxes to make up the shortfall. This is unacceptable. We must find new ways to provide state aid to schools so that the quality of our educational opportunities are enhanced statewide and not just in Lincoln and Omaha."
Tourism
- Excerpt: "Tourism is such an important part of our economic viability that it deserves its own attention outside the general economic development discussion. Tourism is our third largest industry in Nebraska, yet we are the 45th state in the country in state spending on tourism. With just a little more attention we could do what South Dakota does and export our income tax to visitors."

Elections for theNebraska State Senate took place in 2014. A primary election took place on May 13, 2014. The general election took place onNovember 4, 2014. Thesignature filing deadline for challengers wishing to run in this election was March 3, 2014, two days after the statutory deadline, which fell on a Saturday. Incumbents were required to file for election by February 18, 2014, three days after the statutory deadline, which fell on the Saturday prior to Presidents Day.John Stinner, Sr. defeatedMike Meister in the general election. Both candidates were unopposed in the primary election.[3][4][5]
