Superintendent
The current Michigan Superintendent of Public Instruction isGlenn Maleyko (nonpartisan). Maleyko assumed office in 2025.
State Board of Education
The State Board of Education serves as the general planning and coordinating body for public education. Additionally, the board advises the legislature on the financial status and requirements for public education. The superintendent is appointed by the board and serves as chairman of the board without the right to vote. The board as a whole consists of eight members who are nominated by party conventions. They are elected at large to eight-year terms. During a vacancy, the governor may appoint a new member.[3]
