Judge Mihm sentenced Al Qaida sleeper agent and former Bradley University student Ali al-Marri to eight and a half years in prison on October 29, 2009. Marri was convicted for his role to conspire in the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 and was known to be in terrorist training camps in the Middle East.
Despite the fact that Marri spent five years in military prison, Mihm handed down the sentence because he considered Marri a threat to society and national security.[3]
