Matt Orlando is an at-large member of theChandler City Council in Arizona. He assumed office on January 10, 2019. His current term ends in 2027.

Orlando won re-election for an at-large seat of theChandler City Council in Arizona outright in the primary onAugust 2, 2022, after the general election was canceled.

Orlando previously served on the council from 1990 to 1998 and from 2004 to 2013.[1]

Biography

Matt Orlando earned a bachelor's degree from Rutgers University and a master's degree from Golden Gate University. His professional experience includes working for numerous companies in Aerospace/Space/National Defense. Orlando served in the U.S. Air Force and the Arizona Air National Guard for 30 years.[2]

What would be your top three priorities, if elected?

- Increase Public Safety resources for our community and schools. - Enhance and preserve existing neighborhoods, parks, recreational amenities and programs for a better Quality of Life for our residents. - Continue sound fiscal policies that protect Chandlers Tax base by working partnerships with private and public entities to expand and enhance our business climate.

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

Working with residents on their local neighborhood issues. Working with Public Safety to improve their response times and keeping our neighborhoods and schools safe. Working partnerships with private and public entities to expand our business climate.

Who do you look up to? Whose example would you like to follow, and why?

My grandfather, was a first born generation from Italy. He worked hard, bought a home and raised 4 children. He taught me that honesty, integrity and hard work were the keys to a happy and successful life

What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official?

Trust, integrity and Open and honest Communication

What qualities do you possess that you believe would make you a successful officeholder?

Trust, integrity and Open and honest Communication. Finding common ground on issues that face our community

What do you believe are the core responsibilities for someone elected to this office?

Be responsive to the residents and business leaders and don't be afraid to push for common ground on issues

What legacy would you like to leave?

I left a better quality of life for our residents

What was your very first job? How long did you have it?

I shined shoes at the age of eleven and stood on a corner to sell newspapers.

What is your favorite holiday? Why?

Hope Dies Last, Keeping Faith in Troubled Times by Studs TerkelIts a book about people experiencing hardship or difficult situations and become activist, committed and determine to make a change for the positive.

What qualities does this office possess that makes it a unique and important part of the local government?

City or town government is the most basic of all government and has the biggest impact on the day to day lives of its residents.

Do you believe that it’s beneficial for holders of this office to have previous experience in government or politics?

My 17 years of experience would allow me to work for the residents of Chandler on day one. Yes, normally it may take up to two years to feel comfortable in an elected position

What is your political philosophy?

My priorities are to: Increase Public Safety resources in our community and schools. Improve our Quality of Life to include preserving existing neighborhoods, expand youth programs and facilities, and create a more sustainable community. Increase our Economic Development capabilities and maintain strong Fiscal Responsibilities that protect Chandler's tax base

Is there anything you would like to add?

Married to Pat, my wife for more than 40 years, we have 3 grown children and 2 grandchildren. We lived in Chandler since 1983. For recreation and relaxation, I am an Umpire ![3]
