Rendell was nominated to theUnited States Court of Appeals for the 3rd Circuit by PresidentBill Clinton on January 7, 1997, to a seat vacated by JudgeWilliam Hutchinson. TheAmerican Bar Association rated RendellUnanimously Well Qualified for the nomination.[2] Hearings on Rendell's nomination were held before theUnited States Senate Committee on the Judiciary on September 5, 1997, and her nomination was reported by U.S. Sen.Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) on September 18, 1997. Rendell was confirmed on a voice vote of theU.S. Senate on September 26, 1997, and she received her commission on September 29, 1997. Rendell assumedsenior status on July 1, 2015.[1][3]

Eastern District of Pennsylvania

Rendell was nominated to theUnited States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania by PresidentBill Clinton on November 19, 1993, to a seat vacated by JudgeLouis Bechtle. TheAmerican Bar Association rated RendellSubstantial Majority Qualified, Minority Well Qualified for the nomination.[4] Hearings on Rendell's nomination were held before theSenate Judiciary Committee on January 27, 1994, and her nomination was reported by then-U.S. Sen.Joseph Biden (D-Del.) on February 9, 1994. Rendell was confirmed on a voice vote of theUnited States Senate on February 10, 1994, and she received her commission the next day. Rendell resigned from the district court on November 20, 1997, upon her elevation to theThird Circuit Court of Appeals.[1][5]
