Wood was first nominated to theUnited States District Court for the Southern District of Georgia byGeorge W. Bush on June 12, 2006, to a seat vacated byDudley Bowen. TheAmerican Bar Association rated WoodUnanimously Well Qualified for the nomination. Hearings on Wood's nomination were held before theSenate Judiciary Committee on September 12, 2006, and her nomination was reported by U.S. Sen. Arlen Specter (R-Pa.) on September 29, 2006. Under provisions of Rule XXXI, paragraph six of the standing rules of the Senate, Wood's nomination was returned to the president on December 9, 2006. President Bush resubmitted the nomination on January 9, 2007, and her nomination was reported by U.S. Sen.Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) on January 29, 2007, without additional hearings. Wood was confirmed on a recorded 97-0 vote of theU.S. Senate on January 30, 2007, and she received her commission on February 8, 2007. From 2010 to 2017, Wood served as thechief judge of the district court.[1][2][3][4]
