Levi Woodbury (1789-1851) was an Associate Justice on theSupreme Court of the United States. He joined the court in 1846 after a nomination from PresidentJames Polk. He served until his death onSeptember 4, 1851. Prior to joining the court, he was a U.S. Senator from New Hampshire.[1]

Woodbury was one of two justices nominated to the Supreme Court by President Polk. He served duringThe Taney Court.[2]

Woodbury received a recess appointment from PresidentJames Polk on September 20, 1845. On December 23, 1845, he was officially nominated. He was confirmed by the Senate onJanuary 3, 1846, and received commission that same day. He served until his death onSeptember 4, 1851.[1] He was succeeded to this post by JusticeBenjamin Robbins Curtis.
