Nesbitt was nominated by PresidentRonald Reagan on October 31, 1983, to a seat vacated byCarl Atkins; he was confirmed by the Senate on November 15, 1983, and received commission thenext day. He assumedsenior status onJuly 19, 1998, and served in that capacity until his death onOctober 6, 2001.
