I am a lifelong Southern Tier resident and champion for our community with a proven track record. As your State Senator, I am fighting to make our district a better and safer place for working families. In 2022, I was elected to represent the newly drawn 52nd Senate District, which includes all of Cortland and Tompkins Counties, and part of Broome County. I was sworn into office in January of 2024 as part of a historic class of incoming Democratic senators made up entirely of women for the first time in the 245-year history of the New York Senate.
  • I will fight to make sure women's reproductive rights are always protected in New York. I was elected in a post-Roe vs. Wade world, where reproductive rights and freedoms that had long been settled as a civil right, continue to come under attack. There are consistent efforts to rollback this important healthcare right, including legislative actions to criminalize doctors providing care to their patients and more. I ran with the resolve that if the Supreme Court wouldn’t protect a woman’s right to choose, I would as a State Senator. We’ve made tremendous strides in New York to fully protect reproductive rights, but there’s still work to be done.
  • I will secure more funding for gun violence prevention and local police and EMS to enhance the safety of our neighborhoods.
  • I will make our community more affordable by expanding housing for low and middle-income families, lifting up wages, and continuing to invest in our public schools to empower our children to reach their full potential.
As chair of the Senate Committee on Women’s Issues, I work tirelessly to pass legislation addressing a wide range of issues impacting women, including menstrual product accessibility, improved maternity health services, reinforced reproductive rights, enhanced protection against fibroids and ovarian cancer, and stringent measures to prevent human trafficking.
It is important for an elected official to be a good listener.

Scorecards

Ascorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.

Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.
