Lawrence Warren Pierce (b. 1924) was a judge on theUnited States Court of Appeals for the 2nd Circuit and theUnited States District Court for the Southern District of New York. He joined theSecond Circuit in 1981 after an appointment fromRonald Reagan. He joined theSouthern District of New York in 1971 after an appointment fromRichard Nixon. At the time of his appointment, he was a visiting professor at S.U.N.Y., Albany. Pierce assumed senior status onJanuary 1, 1990 and his service terminated with his retirement onMarch 31, 1995. He died on February 5, 2020.[1]

Judicial career

Southern district of New York

Prior to his time on the Second Circuit, Pierce joined theUnited States District Court for the Southern District of New York after being nominated by PresidentRichard Nixon on April 26, 1971. He filled a seat vacated byWilliam Herlands, was confirmed by the Senate on May 20, 1971, and received his commission onMay 20, 1971. Pierce finished service on November 30, 1981 due to appointment to another judicial position. Pierce was succeeded in this position byShirley Kram.[1]

Second Circuit

Pierce joined theUnited States Court of Appeals for the 2nd Circuit after being nominated by PresidentRonald Reagan on September 8, 1981. He filled a seat vacated byMurray Gurfein, and was confirmed by the Senate on November 18, 1981, received his commission onNovember 18, 1981. Pierce assumed senior status onJanuary 1, 1990 and his service terminated with his retirement onMarch 31, 1995.[1] Pierce was succeeded to this post byJoseph McLaughlin.
