Kiyo Matsumoto is afederal judge onsenior status for theUnited States District Court for the Eastern District of New York. She joined the court in 2008 after being nominated by PresidentGeorge W. Bush (R).[1] She assumedsenior status on July 23, 2022.[2]

Early life and education

Born in Raleigh,North Carolina, Matsumoto graduated from the University of California-Berkeley with her bachelor's degree in 1976 and later from Georgetown University Law Center with aJ.D. in 1981.[1]

Professional career

Matsumoto was a private practice attorney inWashington State from 1981 to 1983 before joining theU.S. Attorney's Office as assistant U.S. attorney for theEastern District of New York from 1983 to 2004. Matsumoto served as an adjunct professor of law at New York University School of Law from 1998 to 2004.[1]

Judicial career

Matsumoto was afederal magistrate judge for theEastern District of New York in 2004 where she served a partial term until 2008.[1]

In 2008, Matsumoto was nominated to theUnited States District Court for the Eastern District of New York by PresidentGeorge W. Bush (R) onMarch 11, 2008, to a seat vacated byEdward Korman as Korman assumedsenior status. Matsumoto was confirmed by theSenate onJuly 17, 2008, on a majority vote and received commission onJuly 22, 2008.[3] She assumedsenior status on July 23, 2022.
