Mission
The mission statement of the Kentucky Department of Education reads:[1]

Superintendent
The current Kentucky Commissioner of Education isRobbie Fletcher (nonpartisan). Fletcher assumed office in 2024.
State Board of Education
TheKentucky State Board of Education is responsible for developing and adopting regulations for the state's school districts. The board consists of 15 members, 11 of which are voting members appointed by thegovernor. Seven members represent the Supreme Court districts and four are at-large members. Members serve four-year terms. According to officials, every year the board elects the chair and vice chair. The board also includes four non-voting members: a high school student, an elementary or secondary school teacher, the president of the Council on Postsecondary Education and the secretary of the Education and Workforce Development Cabinet.[3]
