Judiciary Committee, Florida House of Representatives
TheJudiciary Committee is astanding committee of theFlorida House of Representatives. It was created with the 2011 session. Prior to that was theCriminal & Civil Justice Policy Council.
Per the House Rules, committees of theFlorida House of Representatives are assigned by theSpeaker of the House.[1] Standing committees are assigned before each regular session and shall expire on June 30 of odd-numbered years or, at the adjournment of a special or extended session.[2]The Speaker shall appoint the chair, vice-chair and co-chairs of all standing committees and subcommittees. After the Speaker has appointed the committee and subcommittee members,the Minority Leader can name a Minority Conference member or ranking member of any committee, subject to the approval of the Speaker.[1] The Speaker can appoint theSpeaker Pro Tempore or theMajority Leader, or theMajority Whip to serve as anex officio voting member on any committee or subcommittee.[3] A majority makes up a committee's quorum, butex officio members are not counted for purposes of determining a quorum.[4]
