John has been a nonprofit advocate fighting for policies that impact our families, immigrants, public health, and the environment. John helped pass the tobacco tax (Prop 56), raising $1.4 billion to fight teen smoking & Big Tobacco. He also helped secure $1.75 million in annual CDC funding for children with disabilities. Today, John is the Executive Director of Los Angeles Walks, LA’s leading pedestrian advocacy nonprofit, and a citywide leader on transportation. He works with our families, seniors, and students to create safer streets and improve mobility for pedestrians and transit riders.
  • Our communities need more ownership of our land. That when when our neighborhoods develop, we grow with it instead of getting displaced.
  • As the second largest city in the nation, we deserve world class public transit. Regular bus and train services, dignified sidewalks that are well lit and shaded, and clean and safe bus and subway stops.
  • We need to protect our seniors. Our district has lots of multi-generational families, many immigrant and monolingual. We need a state government laser focused on making sure our seniors can age in place and with dignity.
Transportation, city planning, civil rights, LGBTQ rights, immigrant rights, public health, tobacco control, education policy, and disability health policy.
Elected officials that are free of special interest money. We reject oil and gas, corporate PAC, and anti-union corporate money.

Elected officials who power is rooted in the community, not political machines and party favors.
A core responsibility is to fight uncompromisingly for what is best for our neighbors, despite special interest pressure and lobbying.
World class public transit in Los Angeles.
I was the legislative associate for the national Tourette Syndrome Association where I advocated for families and students who suffered with Tourette Syndrome.
Make LA Metro a popularly elected body, not an appointed body. That way those who ride the metro are the ones making decisions about metro.
