John O. Colvin was afederal judge on theUnited States Tax Court. He joined the court in 1988 after a nomination from PresidentRonald Reagan. His term ended in 2003 and he was reappointed on August 12, 2004, by PresidentGeorge W. Bush. He served as chief judge from June 1, 2006 to June 1, 2012.^[1][2] He also served as chief judge in an interim period from March 8, 2013, to August 6, 2013.^[2] Colvin assumedsenior status in 2016. His service ended on March 11, 2024, upon his death.^[3]

Education

Colvin earned his A.B. in 1968 at the University of Missouri and hisJ.D. from the same school three years later. He also earned anLL.M. in Taxation from Georgetown University Law Center in 1978.^[2]
