Hie was born in Germany. He moved to the United States in 1951. Hie graduated from the University of Tennessee’s College of Pharmacy in 1969. He served as a pharmacist in the United States Army at Walter Reed Army Medical Center from 1969 until 1972. Hie also worked in the finance industry.[1][2]
