John F. Grady
John Francis Grady was afederal judge for theUnited States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. He joined the court in 1975 after being nominated by PresidentGerald Ford. He assumedsenior status on May 23, 1994. Grady's service ended on December 2, 2019, when he died.[1]
Education
Grady graduated from Northwestern University with his bachelor's degree in 1952 and graduated from Northwestern University School of Law with hisJ.D. degree in 1954.[1]

Northern District of Illinois
Grady was nominated to theUnited States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois by PresidentGerald Ford onOctober 20, 1975, to a seat vacated byEdwin Robson. Grady was confirmed by the Senate onNovember 20, 1975, and received commission onNovember 21, 1975. Grady served as thechief judge of theNorthern District of Illinois from 1986 to 1990 before assumingsenior status onMay 23, 1994. Grady's service ended on December 2, 2019, when he died.[1]
Noteworthy cases
Craigslist "erotic services" case (2009)
Judge Grady was the presiding judge in a lawsuit involving Craigslist. Grady threw out a lawsuit filed by Cook County Sheriff who wanted to sue the website for facilitating prostitution. He threw it out on the grounds that users of the website, not the website itself, are connected to prostitution.[2]
