John G. Davies (1929-2020) was afederal judge on theUnited States District Court for the Central District of California.

Davies was nominated by PresidentRonald Reagan on April 22, 1986, to a seat vacated byCynthia Holcomb Hall; he was confirmed by the Senate on June 6, 1986, and received commission onJune 9, 1986. He served the Central District of California until his retirement onJuly 18, 1998. Davies was succeeded in this position byJohn Walter.

Davies died of cancer on March 24, 2020. He was the first Australian-American to become a federal judge of the United States.[1]

Biography

Davies was born in Australia and moved to the United States in 1949 to attend college. While in college, he was an Olympic athlete for Australia, winning a gold medal in the 200-meter breaststroke competition in 1952.[1]
