An effort torecall John Cole from his position asmayor of Taylor,Arizona was abandoned in 2009 when Cole resigned his post in order to move to Phoenix to accept a new job. Cole, who had been mayor of Taylor for two years when these events transpired, said, "I want to make it perfectly clear. My decision had nothing to do with a recall petition or any other town-related item. It has everything to do with career advancement."[1]
Marion Hatch spearheaded the effort to recall the mayor because Cole voted in favor of a resolution to Navajo County calling for an election on the question of the “consolidation of Taylor and Snowflake”. According to the circulated petition, the purpose of the recall was because the mayor and other elected officials had “willfully, without regard to the citizens of Taylor, attempted to give away control of the town of Taylor in Resolution R-2009-07. Therefore, I am pursuing a recall to remove (him) from his office...before further action on his part to do more harm to the Town of Taylor.”
Recall efforts againstCouncilman Robin Palmer for the same reason continued after Cole's resignation.[2]
