Jesse Gabriel was first elected to the State Assembly in 2018.

In his short time in the Legislature, Gabriel has championed efforts to address California's housing and homelessness crisis, strengthen public education, fight climate change, pass commonsense gun safety measures, and protect vulnerable communities. In his first full term, Gabriel authored nine bills that were signed into law by Governor Gavin Newsom, including highly regarded measures to expand access to justice and protect communities at risk of hate-motivated violence. He also has fought to protect Californians during the COVID-19 pandemic, including through measures to increase testing, provide PPE to healthcare and essential workers, and deliver emergency financial relief to struggling workers and small businesses.

Before being elected to the Legislature, Gabriel worked as a constitutional rights attorney. In 2017, Gabriel sued the Trump Administration in two landmark lawsuits to protect young people-known as Dreamers-who were promised protection under the DACA program. Gabriel previously served as a LA County Commissioner and as a board member of the LA League of Conservation Voters and the Jewish Federation. Scorecards

Ascorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.

Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.
