  • Federal Spending: Unlike many in Washington, Jay knows we have a serious problem with spending that must be addressed. Working to balance the budget is key to getting our economy back on its feet and creating good paying middle class jobs. Jay will fight for a responsible approach that balances our budget while making investments in the things that will make our country stronger – especially education, small businesses and the middle class.
  • Social Security/ Medicare: Social Security reflects our shared belief that every American should be able to retire with dignity after decades of hard work. Medicare is critical for 50 million seniors and people with disabilities to get the care they need. Unlike Kevin Yoder, who supported changes to Medicare and Social Security that would hurt seniors and the middle class, Jay opposes any changes to those programs.
  • Wall Street reform: The 2008 financial crisis devastated the lives of everyday Americans—costing 9 million workers their jobs, driving 5 million families out of their homes, and wiping out more than $13 trillion in household wealth. Jay believes that Congress must take action to prevent future crises and make our financial system fairer and more accountable so that Wall Street’s irresponsible behavior in the financial sector can’t wreak havoc on our economy again.
  • Equal Pay: Jay Sidie believes it’s shameful that women earn less than men for doing the same job. As a father of two young daughters, and the son of a working mom, Jay is a fierce advocate for ending wage discrimination against women.
  • Economy that works for everyone: As our country recovers from the great recession, Kansas is falling behind. A recent report from the Bureau of Economic Analysis ranked Kansas 49th among US states in personal income growth. As a small business owner, Jay knows the importance of supporting working families, and has a plan to grow good-paying, local Kansas jobs.[4]
