Jay Garcia-Gregory
Jay A. Garcia-Gregory is afederal judge onsenior status for theU.S. District Court for the District of Puerto Rico. He joined the court in 2000 after being nominated by PresidentBill Clinton (D). He assumed senior status September 30, 2018.[1]
Garcia-Gregory was succeeded on the court bySilvia Carreno-Coll, who was nominated by PresidentDonald Trump (R).
Education
Garcia-Gregory graduated from Assumption College with his bachelor's degree in 1966 and from the University of Madrid with his master's degree in 1969. He went on to graduate from the University of Puerto Rico School of Law with aBachelor of Laws degree in 1972.[1][2]
Professional career
Garcia-Gregory began his legal career as a law clerk for federal judgesHiram Cancio andJose Toledo for theDistrict of Puerto Rico from 1973 to 1974 and also served as a private practice attorney licensed in Puerto Rico from 1974 to 2000.[1]

PresidentBill Clinton (D) nominated Garcia-GregoryApril 5, 2000 on the recommendation of the Puerto Rican at-large Congressional delegation. Garcia-Gregory succeededRaymond Acosta. The U.S. Senate confirmed Garcia-GregoryJune 16, 2000, on majority voice vote. He received commissionJuly 11, 2000. He assumed senior status September 30, 2018.[3]
