James Maxwell Moody was afederal judge for theUnited States District Court for the Eastern District of Arkansas. When Moody's son,James Moody (Arkansas), was confirmed to theUnited States District Court for the Eastern District of Arkansas James Maxwell Moody retired from court in accordance with federal law.[1] Moody retired onMarch 7, 2014.[2]
Early life and education
A native ofArkansas, Moody graduated from the University of Arkansas with a bachelor's degree in 1962 and received hisJ.D. degree in 1964. Moody served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam from 1964 to 1966.[2]
Professional career
Moody spent his pre-judicial legal career in private practice in the State ofArkansas from 1964 and 1966 to 1995.[2]
Judicial nominations and appointments
Eastern District of Arkansas
On the recommendation of Senators David Pryor and Dale Bumpers, Moody was nominated by PresidentBill Clinton on June 27, 1995, to a seat vacated byHenry Woods. Moody was confirmed by the U.S.Senate on August 11, 1995 and received his commission onAugust 14, 1995. He assumedsenior status onOctober 1, 2008. Moody, in accordance with federal law, retired fromUnited States District Court for the Eastern District of Arkansas, to allow his sonJames Moody (Arkansas) to accept a confirmation to the same court.[2]
