James Edmondson (Federal judge)
James Larry Edmondson is afederal judge onsenior status with theUnited States Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit. He joined the court in 1986 after being nominated by PresidentRonald Reagan.[1]
Early life and education
Born in Jasper,Georgia, Edmondson earned his B.A. from Emory University in 1968, hisJ.D. from the University of Georgia School of Law in 1971, and hisLL.M. from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1990.[1]

Edmondson was nominated to theUnited States Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit by PresidentRonald Reagan on March 26, 1986, to a seat vacated byAlbert Henderson. Hearings on Edmondson's nomination were held before theUnited States Senate Committee on the Judiciary on April 16, 1986, and his nomination was reported by U.S. Sen. Strom Thurmond (R-S.C.) on April 24, 1986. Edmondson was confirmed on a voice vote of theU.S. Senate on April 29, 1986, and he received his commission on May 7, 1986. Edmondson served aschief judge of the court from 2002 to 2009. He assumedsenior status on July 15, 2012.[1][2] He was succeeded in this position by JudgeJulie Carnes.
