James Hancock
James Hughes Hancock was afederal judge with theUnited States District Court for the Northern District of Alabama. He joined the court in 1973 after being nominated by PresidentRichard Nixon (R). Early life and education
A native ofMontgomery, Alabama, Hancock earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Alabama in 1953 and hisLL.B. from the University of Alabama School of Law in 1957.[1]
Military service
Hancock served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955.[1]

Judicial career
Northern District of Alabama
Hancock was nominated by PresidentRichard Nixon (R) on March 20, 1973, to a seat on theUnited States District Court for the Northern District of Alabama vacated by JudgeSeybourn Lynne. Hancock was confirmed by theU.S. Senate on April 10, 1973, and he received his commission onApril 17, 1973. Hancock elected to takesenior status beginning onMay 1, 1996.[1] Hancock was succeeded in this position by JudgeInge Johnson. His service officially ended on July 24, 2020, when he died.[1]
