Biography

Oliveira was born in Holyoke, Massachusetts, and lives in Ludlow, Massachusetts. Oliveira graduated from Ludlow High School in 2004. He earned a bachelor's degree in government from Framingham State University in 2008.[1][2] Oliveira's career experience includes working as an assistant executive officer with the Massachusetts State Universities Council of Presidents, a middle-school teacher, and a legislative aide with the Massachusetts House of Representatives.[1][2][3] He has been affiliated with the LUSO Federal Credit Union, Massachusetts Association of School Committees, and National School Boards Association.[1][2]

A fourth-generation Ludlow resident, Jake is proud of his Portuguese and Polish roots. Jake was educated entirely through the public education system. He is a third-generation Ludlow High School graduate (2004) and an alumnus of Framingham State University, where he earned a degree in Government (2008).

Jake was elected to the Ludlow School Committee in 2009 and has served for 11 years-persistently fighting for educational equity. Jake rose through the ranks of the Massachusetts Association of School Committees to become the youngest President of this statewide organization in 2016. At the national level, he has represented the eleven states of the Northeast on the National School Boards Association's board of directors since 2015.

In his professional career, Jake serves as the Assistant Executive Officer of the Massachusetts State Universities Council of Presidents, which represents the interests of the nine state universities. ​Jake understands the workings and power dynamics of the State House, having worked there early in his career as the legislative director for then-State Representative Michael Rodrigues.

Jake's immediate family members are all proud graduates of Ludlow High School-his sister Georgina (2011), Mom Carol (1971), grandmother Lena (1943), and Dad Richard (1967). Family is very important to Jake, and he credits his dad, Ludlow High School math teacher Rich Oliveira, for instilling his passion for public education.

Jake has distinguished himself as a fierce advocate for public education. Whether in his time as a Ludlow School Committee member, fighting for educational equity. Or as Ludlow's representative to the Lower Pioneer Valley Educational Collaborative where he champions expansions of the regional vocational education programs and transportation for seven school districts. In his time as President of the Massachusetts Association of School Committees, Jake led the fight against Question 2, which would have further expanded charter schools without local approval.

Jake believes a well-educated workforce is critical to the success of our Commonwealth and region. As our State Representative, Jake will ensure our Commonwealth invests in each level of education - early childhood, K-12, career/technical, and public higher education.
