The government of Indiana consists of three branches--the judicial, the legislative and the executive branches. The state government was first formed in December 1816 when it replaced the government of the Indiana Territory. In 1851, a newconstitution was adopted by the state.
Indiana has two members of theU.S. Senate, a total of nine members of theU.S. House of Representatives, 100 members of theHouse of Representatives and 50 members of theState Senate.
