Structure
Mission
The mission statement of the Idaho State Department of Education reads:[1]

Superintendent
The current Idaho Superintendent of Public Instruction isDebbie Critchfield (R). Critchfield assumed office in 2023.
State Board of Education
The State Board of Education is composed of eight members, including theSuperintendent of Public Instruction. The other seven members of the board are appointed by theGovernor with the consent of theState Senate. The purpose of the board is to provide general oversight and governance for public K-20 education. The Board also serves as the Board of Trustees for state-sponsored public four year colleges and universities, and as the Board of Regents for the University of Idaho.[3]
