Turrentine was nominated to theUnited States District Court for the Southern District of California byRichard Nixon on February 19, 1970, to a seat vacated byFred Kunzel. He was confirmed by the Senate on April 23, 1970, and received his commission onApril 24, 1970. Turrentine served aschief judge of the court from 1982-1984. He assumedsenior status onJanuary 22, 1984.[1] Turrentine was succeeded in this position byRudi Brewster.
