Henry Friendly
Henry Jacob Friendly (1903-1986) was afederal judge for theUnited States Court of Appeals for the 2nd Circuit. He joined the court in 1959 after an appointment fromDwight Eisenhower. At the time of appointment, he was a private practice attorney and the Vice president and general counsel of Pan American World Airways. He served aschief judge from 1971-1973. He assumedsenior status onApril 15, 1974, and served in that capacity until his death onMarch 11, 1986.[1]

Friendly was nominated by PresidentDwight Eisenhower on March 10, 1959, to a seat vacated byHarold Medina; he was confirmed by the Senate on September 9, 1959, and received his commission onSeptember 10th. He served aschief judge from 1971-1973. He assumedsenior status onApril 15, 1974, and served in that capacity until his death onMarch 11, 1986. He was succeeded to the post byEllsworth Van Graafeiland.[1]
