Harold Montelle Stephens
Harold Montelle Stephens (1886-1955) was afederal judge on theUnited States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit.
He was nominated by PresidentFranklin Delano Roosevelt on July 23, 1935 to replaceWilliam Hitz. He was confirmed by the Senate on July 24th, and received commission onJuly 27th. He served in this position untilMarch 9, 1948.
On February 2, 1948, he was nominated by PresidentHarry Truman to the position of Chief Justice of theUnited States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit replacingDuncan Lawrence Groner. He was confirmed by the Senate on March 2nd, and received commission onMarch 5th. He held this position untilSeptember 1, 1948, when he was reassigned to his previous position as a judge on the same court. From 1948 to 1955, he was thechief judge. He served until his death onMay 28, 1955.[1]
