Harold DeMoss
Harold R. DeMoss, Jr. was afederal judge with theUnited States Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit. He joined the court on December 2, 1991, after being nominated by PresidentGeorge H.W. Bush (R). He assumedsenior status on July 1, 2007. DeMoss retired from the court on April 16, 2015.[1]
DeMoss died on April 29, 2020.[1]
Early life and education
A native ofHouston, Texas, DeMoss graduated from Rice Institute with his bachelor's degree in 1952 and from the University of Texas School of Law with hisLL.B. in 1955.[1]
Military career
DeMoss served in the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1957.[1]

DeMoss was nominated to theUnited States Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit by PresidentGeorge H.W. Bush on June 27, 1991, to a seat vacated by JudgeJerre Williams. TheAmerican Bar Association rated DeMossUnanimously Qualified for the nomination.[2] Hearings on DeMoss' nomination were held before theUnited States Senate Committee on the Judiciary on September 26, 1991, and his nomination was reported by then-U.S. Sen.Joseph Biden (D-Del.) on October 31, 1991. DeMoss was confirmed by the unanimous consent of theU.S. Senate on November 27, 1991, and he received his commission on December 2, 1991. DeMoss assumedsenior status on July 1, 2007.[1][3] DeMoss was succeeded in this position by JudgeCatharina Haynes.
