Dr. Pham comes from humble beginnings. He and his family emigrated to Corvallis, Oregon after the Vietnam War as refugees. At the age of 27, he was diagnosed with Leukemia and is now a cancer survivor. These life experiences have helped shape him into the person he is today.

Dr. Pham and his family have been fortunate to experience the American dream. This is why he strives to give back and help others. Becoming a pediatric dentist has allowed him to do so. After completing his residency at Oregon Health & Science University and Doernbecher Children’s Hospital he created Hi5 Dental Dentistry for Kids in 2010. Dr. Pham’s goal is to provide access to dental care in a positive environment. In addition to his private practice, Dr. Pham provides charity dental care for children that have complex medical conditions from all around Oregon.

Dr. Pham’s personal and professional experiences have given him the ability to work well with others and will help guide him in making important evidence-based policies for Oregon.

  • Medical and dental coverage for all is a right, not a privilege. However, many Oregonians do not have access to medical and/or dental care. As a cancer survivor Dr. Pham has experienced first-hand how broken our medical system actually is in Oregon. At the age of 27, immediately before starting his pediatric dental residency, he was diagnosed with leukemia. He could not afford the $15,000 monthly copay for the cancer treatment. He spent months without access to care. He had given up all hope until he was able to find financial aid to get the treatment necessary for his survival. As an Oregonian who is living with a pre-existing condition. Dr. Pham knows how important it is to fight to help keep medical insurance for all.
  • Dr. Pham wants all residents of Oregon to have the same high quality education that transformed his life. We need to invest more funds into schools and in educating our children in order to give them the tools necessary for leading successful lives. Such investment could be in the form of preschools, higher education or vocational programs. I will work with parents, teachers and school board members to develop a strategic plan and policies that will focus on getting more funding to our schools.
  • Jobs creation is crucial to a successful and thriving community. Both small and large businesses in our community should work together with our local government to create more jobs that provide living wages with medical and dental coverage. Having access to better paying jobs will allow Oregonians to save for the future.

Scorecards

See also:State legislative scorecards andState legislative scorecards in Oregon

Ascorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.

Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.
