Gordon Thompson
Gordon Thompson, Jr. was afederal judge in theUnited States District Court for the Southern District of California. He joined the court in 1970 after being nominated by PresidentRichard Nixon. He served onsenior status until he passed away on July 5, 2015.[1][2]
Education
Thompson graduated from the University of Southern California with his bachelor's degree in 1951 and graduated from the Southwestern University School of Law with his law degree in 1956.[2]
Professional career
Thompson started his legal career as a Deputy district attorney forSan Diego County from 1957 to 1960 before becoming a private practice attorney licensed in the State ofCalifornia from 1960 to 1970.[2]
Judicial nominations and appointments
Southern District of California
Thompson was nominated by PresidentRichard Nixon on October 7, 1970, to a new seat on theUnited States District Court for the Southern District of California, which was created by 84 Stat. 294, approved by Congress. Thompson was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on October 13, 1970, on a senate vote and received commission onOctober 16, 1970. Thompson served aschief judge of the court from 1984 to 1991 before assumingsenior status onDecember 28, 1994.[2] Thompson passed away on July 5, 2015.[3]
