2016

Main article:Texas judicial elections, 2016

Palafox challenged incumbent JusticeSteven Hughes for his seat on theTexas Eighth District Court of Appeals in the2016 elections. Like Hughes, Palafox is a registeredDemocrat. Hughes and Palafox faced off in a five-way primary election. NoRepublicans filed to run for the seat.[1] Palafox andMaria Ramirez were the top two finishers in the March 1 primary. Because neither candidate received more than 50 percent of the vote, they faced each other in a May 24 runoff. Palafox won. She was therefore unopposed in the November general election.
