Ballot title

The ballot title for Amendment 8 was as follows:

For ratification of an amendment to article 5, section 2, of the constitution, striking therefrom paragraph two, three and four of article 5, section 2, and authorizing the general assembly to prescribe the duties, authority, and salaries of the secretary of state, comptroller-general and treasurer, and to provide help and expenses necessary for the operation of the department of each.

Atwo-thirds (66.67%) vote is required during one legislative session for theGeorgia State Legislature to place an amendment on the ballot. That amounts to a minimum of 120 votes in theGeorgia House of Representatives and 38 votes in theGeorgia State Senate, assuming no vacancies. Amendments do not require the governor's signature to be referred to the ballot.
