George White (Ohio)
George White was anArticle III judge for theUnited States District Court for the Northern District of Ohio. He joined the court in 1980 after being nominated by PresidentJimmy Carter. White was serving onsenior status until the time of his death on November 12, 2011.[1]
Education
White graduated from Cleveland-Marshall College of Law with hisJ.D. degree in 1955.[1]
Professional career
White was a private practice attorney licensed in the State ofOhio from 1956 to 1968. He also served as a referee in theCuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas from 1957 to 1962 and also served as city councilman for the City of Cleveland from 1963 to 1968. In 1968, White joined theCuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas, where he served until joining the federal court in 1980.[1]

Potter was nominated by PresidentJimmy Carter onMarch 28, 1980, to a new seat created by 92 Stat. 1629. White was confirmed by the Senate onMay 21, 1980, and received commission onMay 23, 1980. White served as thechief judge of theNorthern District of Ohio from 1995 to 1999 before later assumingsenior status onFebruary 26, 1999. White passed away while serving the bench on November 12, 2011.[1]
