Gary Hanson, South Dakota public service commissioner
Gary Hanson (Republican Party) is a member of theSouth Dakota Public Utilities Commission. He assumed office in 2003. His current term ends on January 5, 2027.
Hanson (Republican Party) ran for re-election to theSouth Dakota Public Utilities Commission. He won in the general election onNovember 3, 2020.
Biography
Hanson was born and raised in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He is a licensed real estate auctioneer, appraiser and broker and owned a small business for 16 years. Hanson also has extensive experience in public service. He served two terms as the Mayor of Sioux Falls and three terms in theSouth Dakota State Senate, where he was chairman of theGovernment Operations and Audit Committee and vice-chairman of theTaxation Committee.[1]

Hanson has served as a member of theSouth Dakota Public Utilities Commission since 2003. He was re-elected in 2008 and 2014.
Hanson served as chairman of the PUC in 2005, 2008 and 2011.[2]
