Francis Boyle
Francis Joseph Boyle (1927-2006) was afederal judge on theUnited States District Court for the District of Rhode Island. He joined the court in 1977 after an appointment fromJimmy Carter. At the time of his appointment, he was a private practice attorney in Rhode Island. He served aschief judge from 1982-1992. He assumedsenior status onDecember 1, 1992, and continued serving in that post until his death onSeptember 11, 2006.[1]

Boyle was nominated by PresidentJimmy Carter on May 2, 1977, to a seat vacated byEdward Day; he was confirmed by the Senate on June 30, 1977, and received commissionthe next day. He served aschief judge from 1982-1992. He assumedsenior status onDecember 1, 1992, and continued serving in that post until his death onSeptember 11, 2006. Boyle was succeeded in this position byMary Lisi.[1]
