Junius Foy Guin, Jr. was an Article III judge for theUnited States District Court for the Northern District of Alabama. He first joined the court in 1973 after being nominated by PresidentRichard Nixon and served onsenior status from 1989 until his death on November 8, 2016.[1]

Education

Guin earned both a bachelor's degree and aJ.D. from the University of Alabama.[1]

Military service

Guin served in the United States Army from 1943 to 1946.[1]

Professional career

Prior to becoming a federal judge, Foy spent his career in private practice in the state ofAlabama from 1948 to 1973.[1]

Judicial nominations and appointments

Northern District of Alabama

Guin was nominated by President Richard Nixon on March 20, 1973, to a seat vacated by JudgeClarence Allgood as Allgood assumedsenior status. Guin was confirmed by theU.S. Senate on April 10, 1973, and he received his commission onApril 18, 1973. Guin assumedsenior status onFebruary 3, 1989, and he served as a senior judge until his death onNovember 8, 2016.[1] Guin was succeeded in this position byEdwin Nelson.
