I was born and raised in the coalfields of southern West Virginia. My dad was a coal miner, and my mom is retired from the Board of Education. My wife, Jennifer, and I have been married for nearly 30 years, and we have three wonderful adult children and one grandchild. I graduated from WVU with a degree in Sociology (Criminal Justice) in 1994 and began my career with the Federal Bureau of Prisons in 1995. I retired in July of 2021 with 26-plus years of service. I have been blessed to serve the citizens of the 45th District since 2022.
  • I want to work to transform the educational system in West Virginia. We are in the middle of the pack as a state when it comes to money spent per student. However, we are routinely 45th-50th in achievement. Our taxpayers simply are not getting the bang for their buck. We can and must do better. Our students deserve the best education possible. I believe in providing the most options possible for our parents and their children when it comes to their education.
  • We have made tremendous strides in lowering the taxes on our citizens and our businesses, but we still have a long way to go. We need to completely eliminate the onerous business inventory tax. By doing so, it will allow us, as a state, to hit the triggers in current law that will continue to reduce our personal income tax rates for our citizens.
  • We need to lure more businesses (and jobs) into West Virginia. I want to do more to provide “site ready” locations for industries looking to move into our state. Investments in our infrastructure now will pay tremendous benefits down the road.
Always having the best interests of your constituents in mind when casting your vote.
That I cared for my people.
Maintenance man at Beckley West Apartments. I worked there for approximately 7 months.
Bringing industry and jobs into out state and transforming how we educate our children.
The state doesn’t “have” money. It’s the taxpayers money. Transparency to those who pay the bills is paramount.

Scorecards

See also:State legislative scorecards andState legislative scorecards in West Virginia

Ascorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.

Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.
