Edward J. McDonough Jr. is an associate justice for theMassachusetts Superior Courts. GovernorCharlie Baker (R) nominated him on June 10, 2020, and he assumed office in August of the same year.[1][2] He may serve on the court until he turns themandatory retirement age of 70.

McDonough also served as a judge on theMassachusetts Appeals Court from 2017 to 2020. Gov.Charlie Baker (R) appointed him in July 2017.[3] McDonough joined the court on September 13, 2017, and resigned to take a position with theMassachusetts Superior Courts in August 2020.[1][4]

Prior to his judgeship on theMassachusetts Appeals Court, McDonough served his first term as an associate justice for theMassachusetts Superior Courts.[5] Gov.Deval Patrick (D) nominated McDonough on January 7, 2013. The Governor's Council confirmed McDonough's nomination on February 27, 2013.[6][7] He served in this position from 2013 to 2017.

Education

McDonough earned a B.A. in history from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst in 1977. He obtained aJ.D.,magna cum laude, from the Western New England School of Law in Springfield in 1981. During his legal studies, McDonough qualified for the law review and served as a student law clerk at the law firm Egan, Flanagan & Cohen, P.C.[4]
