Senator Doug Beck was elected in 2020 to represent the residents of the 1st Senatorial District in the Missouri Senate. In 2022, he was elected by his peers to serve as Senate Minority Floor Leader.

Prior to his election to the Senate, he served two terms in the House of Representatives from 2016-2020. During his time in the House, he was the ranking minority member of the Economic Development and Workforce Development committees and also served on the Veterans Committee and Children and Families Committee.

Senator Beck defends workers and their rights, promotes public education, encourages job creation and champions affordable health care for all. He is an adamant supporter of public safety and first responders.

Aside from his legislative duties, Sen. Beck enjoys a 39-year career as a proud pipefitter and member of UA Local 562. He served on the Affton School Board for nine years, including two years as president. During his tenure, he expanded early childhood education and increased opportunities for students pursuing STEM careers.

Born and raised in St. Louis County, Sen. Beck graduated from Lindbergh High School in 1983 and attended St. Louis Community College. He has been married for 40 years to his wife, Marilyn. They have two children and four grandchildren.

  • PROTECTING WORKING FAMILIESAll too often, our legislature has ignored or even attacked the working men and women of this state. Doug Beck is a proud, lifelong union member who stands up for working people and defends workers’ rights. He opposed the so-called Right-to-Work legislation that would have lowered wages, and will always fight to protect prevailing wage laws and collective bargaining, and opposed other anti-worker legislation. He also supports raising the minimum wage.
  • EDUCATIONDoug served as a member and president of Affton School Board –one of the most successful districts in the state. Doug understands that schools are an asset for our children and our communities. He opposes extreme cuts to our schools and fights to make public education a top priority by fully funding Early Childhood Education through Grade 12 as well as Higher Education.
  • ABORTIONDoug supports a woman’s right to make her own healthcare choices. He has fought against the dangerous and reactionary laws that have put women’s lives in jeopardy while making Missouri less economically attractive for companies who want to grow and create jobs in states where their employees feel safe and free.

Scorecards

See also:State legislative scorecards andState legislative scorecards in Missouri

Ascorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.

Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.
