Denise K. Vowell was a special master for theUnited States Court of Federal Claims. She was appointed to the court on February 1, 2006, and became the Chief Special Master on September 19, 2013.[1]

Early life and education

Vowell earned her B.S. from Illinois State University in 1974, majoring in political science and philosophy. She earned herJ.D. from University of Texas School of Law in 1981. Vowell earned a master's degree while serving in the Army at the Industrial College of the Armed Forces in 1998.[1]

Military service

Vowell enlisted in the United States Army in 1973 and received a commission to the Women's Army Corps (WAC). After serving briefly as a military police officer, Vowell advanced to the legal education program. Upon retirement, she had advanced to the position of chief trial judge in January 2006.[1]

Judicial career

Federal Claims, Special master

Vowell served on theUnited States Court of Federal Claims as a special master. She was appointed on February 1, 2006. She became the chief special master on September 19, 2013, whenPatricia Campbell-Smith was appointed to theUnited States Court of Federal Claims. She served as chief special master until September 1, 2015.[1]
