Briones was nominated to theUnited States District Court for the Western District of Texas by PresidentBill Clinton on August 25, 1994, to a seat vacated byLucius Bunton. TheAmerican Bar Association rated BrionesUnanimously Qualified for the nomination. Hearings on Briones' nomination were held before theSenate Judiciary Committee on October 6, 1994, and his nomination was reported by then-U.S. Sen.Joseph Biden (D-Del.) the same day. Briones was confirmed on a voice vote of theU.S. Senate on October 7, 1994, and he received his commission on October 11, 1994. Briones elected to takesenior status beginning on February 26, 2009. He was succeeded in this position by JudgeDavid Guaderrama.^[1][2][3]
