Cynthia Rufe
Cynthia Rufe is afederal judge onsenior status with theUnited States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. She joined the court in 2002 after a nomination from PresidentGeorge W. Bush (R).[1]
Rufe assumedsenior status on December 31, 2021.[2]
Biography
Early life and education
Rufe graduated from Adelphi University with her bachelor's degree in 1970 and graduated from the State University of New York at Buffalo Law School with herJ.D. degree in 1977.[1]
Professional career

- 1982-1993: Attorney, private practice
- 1984-1988: Solicitor,Bucks County Children and Youth Social Services Agency
- 1980-1981: Deputy Public Defender, Bucks County Public Defender's Office
- 1977-1982: Assistant and Coordinator Public Defender, Juvenile Division, Bucks County Public Defender's Office[1]
Judicial career
Eastern District of Pennsylvania (2002-present)
On the recommendation of U.S. SenatorsRick Santorum and Arlen Specter, Rufe was nominated to theUnited States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania by PresidentGeorge W. Bush onJanuary 23, 2002, to a seat vacated by JudgeNorma Shapiro. Rufe was confirmed by the U.S. Senate onApril 30, 2002, and received commission onMay 3, 2002.[3][4] She assumedsenior status on December 31, 2021.[5]
