Vanel's campaign website highlighted the following issues:

Clyde Will Support and Introduce Legislation That Foster An Improved Business Environment In NY To Spur Job Creation

We must improve the business environment in New York State in order to keep jobs, businesses, employers and entrepreneurs in our city. Additionally, we must foster a business climate to attract employers to our city to create more jobs.

New York desperately needs jobs and we must focus on our tax and other policies to help encourage a job-creating environment. We must continue to reduce the cost of doing business with further reforms in city agency fines policy.

We Must Properly Invest in Educating Our Youth! Our Future Depends on It!

Clyde will work to improve our schools by:

  • supporting policies that promote supporting our schools with the proper resources and funding and not simply closing schools,
  • supporting policies that shift the current test-driven culture to a learning-focused culture,
  • supporting successful proven programs that properly educate and expand opportunities for our children,
  • supporting teachers and staff that work effectively, and
  • promoting community and parent involvement.[8]
—Clyde Vanel[9]

2012

On his campaign website, Vanel listed four main issues of his campaign:

  • Fair Allocation of Resources: "The incumbent wasted almost two million dollars on her own organization, while senior centers are closing, community day care centers have been closed, schools are closing and people are out of work. We must stop this kind of spending immediately. Clyde vows to spend and allocate the resources fairly to keep our senior centers open, to support job creation and support the next generation."
  • Jobs and Small Businesses: "Clyde has extensive experience as a business attorney, former restaurant owner and employer in running a business in New York. It is difficult to open, operate and grow a business in our state. Clyde will work to help create an environment where small businesses can expand and create new jobs."
  • Improving Education: "Clyde will work to improve our schools by (1) supporting policy that promotes supporting our schools with the proper resources and funding and not simply closing schools, (2) supporting successful proven programs that properly educate our children, (3) supporting teachers and staff that work effectively and (4) promoting community and parent involvement."
  • Ethics Reform: "Clyde believes that government should be transparent and accountable. He supports meaningful financial disclosures and special interest and lobbyist meeting disclosures and reporting. The legislature passed the Public Integrity Reform Act last June. It is important to make sure that the measures are properly enforced."

Scorecards

See also:State legislative scorecards andState legislative scorecards in New York

Ascorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.

Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.
