What would be your top three priorities, if elected?

“1. Expand Medicaid to the 78,000 Idahoans who currently live in the gap between Medicaid and ACA eligibility.
2. Fully support education so that our children receive a 21st century-caliber education.
3. Keep Idaho public lands public.[8][9]		”

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about? Why?

“My passion lies with the issues of the working poor. Those who toil with their hands yet have no health care. Those who care for our precious children while working for low wages with no benefits. Those who have to choose between a medical bill and a car repair.Cite error: Invalid<ref> tag; invalid names, e.g. too many[9]”

“Working Women. The unsung heroes are the women of our society who raise the children, cook the food and launder the clothes, all while bringing home a paycheck to support their families.[9]”

What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official?
“Honesty and true allegiance to the citizens of the district rather than the donor class.[9]”
What qualities do you possess that would make you a successful officeholder?
“As a survivor myself, I am deeply attuned to the suffering of those who labor for minimum wage and cannot make ends meet in today's society. Too many families barely survive on one family member's low wage paycheck.[9]”
What do you believe are the core responsibilities for someone elected to this office?
“Work hard to accomplish a positive agenda to help the working poor in Idaho receive health care, educational opportunities and a fair deal in life.[9]”
What legacy would you like to leave?
“That I didn't give up.[9]”
What is the first historical event that happened in your lifetime that you remember? How old were you at that time?
“Space shuttle Challenger exploded when I was in 7th grade, right there on television in our science class. I was devastated and had to leave school.[9]”
What was your very first job? How long did you have it?
“For five years, from ages 10-15, I had 2 newspaper routes in Casper, Wyoming. From age 10, my income had to cover my own personal needs like school supplies and clothes. Anything else went to help the family because we were that poor.[9]”
What happened on your most awkward date?
“I would prefer not to answer this question as it has no bearing on my current life and political goals.[9]”
What is your favorite holiday? Why?
“I just love Halloween, when you can pretend to be anyone you want to be.[9]”
What is your favorite book? Why?
“As a writer, that is like asking me which of my children is my favorite! I have many loves in the literary world, but "In the Wilderness" by Kim Barnes most resonates with me because it is about an Idaho girl growing up in the wilderness..[9]”
If you could be any fictional character, who would you be?
“No fictional character could touch the life I already am leading.[9]”
What is your favorite thing in your home or apartment? Why?
“My fishing pole. It is my lifeline to nature, and a means to harvest food. I am most relaxed beside an Idaho river with a fishing pole is in my hand and the sound of children playing nearby.[9]”
What was the last song that got stuck in your head?

What is something that has been a struggle in your life?
“Overcoming generational poverty has been my lifelong challenge. It took me 8 years to achieve a Bachelor's degree and another 4 to complete my Master's. Even when it looked impossible, I persevered towards a better-paying job with benefits so I could take care of my family.[9]”
(For non-Nebraska candidates) What do you consider the most important differences between the legislative chambers in your state?
“Idaho has a virtual one-party system and needs balance restored to the legislature so that all citizens are represented, not just the wealthy ones.[9]”
Do you believe that it’s beneficial for state legislators to have previous experience in government or politics?
“No. Our country was founded on the concept of a citizen legislature.[9]”
What do you perceive to be your state’s greatest challenges over the next decade?
“Water issues and the environment, public lands, education, and providing health care to every citizen.[9]”
What do you believe is the ideal relationship between the governor and the state legislature?
“The legislature should be a check on the Governor's activities, holding his or her feet to the fire to accomplish positive outcomes for the majority of Idahoans, not just the priviledged few.[9]”
Do you believe it’s beneficial to build relationships with other legislators? Please explain your answer.
“Fellow legislators can be one's co-workers and opposition simultaneously, a delicate balance, to be sure. It is vital to keep lines of communication open to discuss issues honestly. Civility is not a crime.[9]”
What process do you favor for redistricting?
“I need to learn more here, but I have heard that Idaho has a well-regarded system already. I will be looking into it in the future.[9]”
If you are not a current legislator, are there certain committees that you would want to be a part of?
“Commerce and Human Resources, Education, Health and Welfare, and Resources and Environment[9]”
If you are not currently a member of your party’s leadership in the legislature, would you be interested in joining the leadership? If so, in what role?
“I have served as VP of Canyon County Democrats and volunteered for multiple non-profit organizations. I am most knowledgeable about health care issues from personal experience and, as an avid outdoors-woman, I care about any public lands encroachment.[9]”
Is there a particular legislator, past or present, whom you want to model yourself after?
“I have great respect for the women in our legislature, knowing the odds against them, particularly Ilana Rubel, Melissa Wintrow, and Maryanne Jordan. They work quietly, diligently, and effectively behind the scenes for their constituents.[9]”
Are you interested in running for a different political office in the future?
“No, I am interested in helping the working poor of Idaho.[9]”
Both sitting legislators and candidates for office hear many personal stories from the residents of their district. Is there a story that you’ve heard that you found particularly touching, memorable, or impactful?
“I have a friend who has a pHd, a husband with severe diabetes, and two autistic children. A college professor, she still cannot make ends meet with the constant health bills. She also has massive student loan debt. A declaration of bankruptcy hardly alleviates future bills. I admire her fortitude and dedication in caring for her family and students while facing these issues.[9]”
