Charles Tait was afederal judge on theUnited States District Court for the District of Alabama. He was nominated by PresidentJames Monroe on May 10, 1820. He was confirmed by the Senate onMay 13, 1820, and received commission that same day. He was reassigned onMarch 10, 1824.

Tait was reassigned to theU.S. District Court for the Southern District of Alabama and theU.S. District Court for the Northern District of Alabama onMarch 10, 1824. He resigned onFebruary 1, 1826. Tait was succeeded in this position byWilliam Crawford. Tait died on October 7th, 1835.
