Dwight D. Eisenhower nominated Vogel to theEighth Circuit on August 16, 1954, to the seat vacated byWalter Garrett Riddick. He was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on August 18, 1954, receiving commission onAugust 20, 1954. Vogel served asChief Judge of the 8th Circuit from 1965-1968. He assumedsenior status onFebruary 20, 1968 with his serving on the court terminating onSeptember 8, 1980 due to his death.[1]
